## Abstract

The Secretary amends the regulations implementing the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The amendments are needed to implement section 249 of the Improving America's Schools Act of 1994 (IASA) (Pub. L. 103-382, enacted October 20, 1994), to eliminate unnecessary requirements, reduce regulatory burden, and incorporate several technical changes.
