Summary

On October 6, 2003, at 0345 Central Time, a truck owned and operated by Ruan Transport Corporation, 666 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa had a 668 pound release of ferrous chloride. The release occurred near mile marker 131 on I-80 East in La Grange, Illinois. The truck ran off the road and overturned, and the ferrous chloride leaked from a hole caused by the accident. The NRC was called at 1110 central time on October 6, 2003. This call was made by Matthew Martelli of ECS, not from Ruan Transport Corporation. The total penalty was calculated for violation of CERCLA Section 103. The total penalty for this Count is $20,625 for failure to immediately notify the NRC. The complaint was withdrawn, without prejudice, on July 29, 2004.
