Johnson Matthey, Inc. self-disclosed to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Audit Policy on February 5, 2009. The company undertook an extensive review of its Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) reporting and discovered that a number of data quality errors, regarding releases to the POTW and off-site transfers, had been miscalculated for reporting years 2003, 2004 and 2005 for ammonia, chlorine, chromium compounds, copper compounds, dichloromethane, lead compounds, methanol, methyl isobutyl ketone, n-butyl alcohol, nickel compounds, silver compounds, toluene and xylene.
