On September 30, 2011, Region 1 filed a CAFO that simultaneously initiated and settled an enforcement action against EPAÂs Atlantic Ecology Division Laboratory (AED) of Narragansett, Rhode Island for violations of RCRA and the associated federal and state hazardous waste management regulations. AED is an EPA-owned and managed environmental research and development facility with laboratories and support facilities dedicated to ecological research activities. Under the terms of the CAFO, AED will pay a penalty of $30,442 and spend at least $200,000 in the performance of a supplemental environmental project to resolve the action.
