On September 26, 2012 Region 1 issued a pre-filing consent agreement and final order (SuperCAFO) to Spec Plating, Inc., a company that operates a metal finishing facility in Bridgeport, CT, finishing parts primarily for industry and government. The SuperCAFO initiates and resolves alleged violations of RCRA and the Connecticut Hazardous Waste Management Regulations against Spec Plating, Inc. Specifically, EPA alleges that Spec Plating, Inc. failed to make hazardous waste determinations; failed to maintain adequate hazardous waste training documentation; failed to provide adequate training for each employee managing hazardous waste; and failed to maintain an adequate contingency plan. Spec Plating, Inc. agrees to pay a civil penalty of $112,919, and further agrees to achieve and maintain compliance with all applicable requirements of RCRA.
