Michigan Natural Storage has 40,000 lbs. of anhydrous ammonia on site. This exceeds the reporting threshholds of both EPCRA 312 (500 lbs.) and CAA 112(r)(7) (10,000 lbs.). Prior to EPA's investigation, this company had never submitted the required forms under Sections 311 and 312 of EPCRA and had never submitted a Risk Management Plan under CAA 112(r)(7). The company also uses lead acid batteries which contain sulfuric acid. The amount of sulfuric acid on site in these batteries also exceeds the reporting thresholds of EPCRA 312 (500 lbs.) and CAA 112(r)(7) (10,000 lbs.) The company has corrected the lead-acid violations.
