The Ahsahka Water and Sewer District (District) has agreed to pay a $694 penalty to settle violations of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit issued to the District for discharges from the District's wastewater treatment facility (WWTF). This enforcement action was resolved through an administrative consent agreement and final order pursuant to Clean Water Act section 309(g)(2)(B). The District's WWTF provides secondary treatment of wastewater prior to discharge into the Clearwater River. The WWTF is part of a sanitary sewer system that receives domestic wastewater from residential and commercial sources. Between January 2007 and November 2011, the facility had 695 effluent limit violations of its NPDES permit. The facility exceeded its permit limits for Escherichia coli, total suspended solids, total residual chlorine and pH.
