INEOS ChlorAmericas Inc has greed to pay $175,000 in civil penalties to resolve violations relating to its unauthorized importation of chemical substances. The settlement resolves INEOS' violations of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) premanufacturing notice obligations violations for its production of various chlorinated paraffin products. As part of the settlement, INEOS has ceased importing short-chain chlorinated paraffins, the most worrisome of the chlorinated paraffin products in terms of persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic characteristics. INEOS will also submit premanufacturing notices to EPA for various medium-chain and long chain chlorinated paraffin products.
