Remediation at the site included three operable units (OUs). The first two OUs addressed the residential areas that had creosote source material and/or soil containing hazardous substances at levels above risk-based goals. Ninety-three residential properties were cleaned up and over 275,000 tons of soil were removed during OU-1 and OU-2. OU-3 addressed soils contaminated with creosote source material and other hazardous substances at and adjacent to the Rustic Mall property, and contaminated ground water site-wide. In performing response actions, EPA has incurred response costs at or in connection with the site.
