On April 17, 2014, Region 10 filed a consent agreement and final order that resolves RCRA hazardous waste and used oil violations occurring at two Alaska Gold Company, LLC (Alaska Gold) facilities near Nome, Alaska. The company failed to make hazardous waste determinations and stored hazardous wastes at one facility for longer than 90 days without obtaining a permit. The company also violated numerous requirements related to used oil storage, and initiated shipments of used oil to off-site burners without first determining that the used oil met necessary specifications. The company agreed to pay a penalty of $72,000.
