On November 5, 2024, EPA Region 10 filed an expedited settlement agreement resolving violations of the Alaska Multi-Sector General Permit (MSGP) for Stormwater Discharges by Alaska Stormwater Maintenance Yard, located in Anchorage, Alaska. The Facility failed to submit annual reports from 2020 to 2022, and failed to maintain the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) to the standard designated by the Alaska MSGP. Since erosion leads to sediment and other pollutants entering Waters of the United States, EPA estimates that this action has helped reduce 1,611 lbs of sediment, 545 lbs of chemical oxygen demand, 68 lbs of total Kjeldahl nitrogen, and 43 lbs of biological oxygen demand from discharging off-site and reaching Campbell Creek. The Respondent has agreed to pay a penalty of $2,188 and has returned to compliance. The estimated cost of injunctive relief is $1,763. The facility impacts an area with environmental justice concerns.
