Goodyear Tire Safety Defect On XXX, a Goodyear Reliant All-Season 215/70R15 98T tire catastrophically failed while a 1994 Cadillac DeVille was traveling approximately 50 mph. The tire was installed at approximately 159,083 miles and failed at approximately 160,785 miles—only about 1,702 miles later. The failure caused loss of control and a collision with a roadside marker and other roadway hazards, resulting in vehicle total loss. No injuries were reported. He almost side swiped a mom and her two little kids. She pulled over to check on him. Again, everyone ok, but could have been MULTIPLE DEATHS due to this tire failing. The failed tire, wheel, and vehicle have been preserved in their post-incident condition. Photographs and other documentation are available. I am reporting this incident as a potential tire safety defect and request that NHTSA document and evaluate it for any related safety pattern or defect.
