## Narrative

An employee was attempting to free a jammed hammer mechanism on an electric hammer drill. He was holding the drill motor in his right hand and the drill bit in his left hand when he inadvertently pulled the operation switch. The bit began to spin rapidly in the employee s left hand and caught his glove, which quickly tightened around his ring and pinky fingers. His ring fingertip was fractured and partially pulled off, requiring surgical amputation up to the first knuckle. His pinky finger was lacerated and required stitches.
