## Narrative

While an aircraft was preparing for departure, a ramp service employee was conducting a physical walk-around safety check. He noticed that the forward wing slat was deployed and a piece of rubber stripping was protruding. As the employee attempted to push the rubber back in, the slat retracted, trapping his hand. The employee's right index fingertip was amputated at the nail cuticle.
