## Narrative

An employee was riding on the right rear step of a refuse truck when the compaction mechanism cycled to clear the waste contents in the hopper area. As the mechanism was cycling, the employee repositioned his right hand off of the grab handle to get a better grip. His hand went into the path of the moving compaction mechanism, resulting in amputation of the employee's right index finger at the second knuckle.
